Democratic allies assembled today to organize a campaign to back major portions of the House Democrats’ early legislative agenda, aiming to stamp a "progressive" brand name on the new majority’s economic program. Over 30 groups, including Americans United, USAction and the Campaign for America’s Future, met at the headquarters of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees to review plans to press House members to vote for a minimum wage increase, changes in the Medicare prescription drug program, student loan interest rate reductions and a repeal of tax benefits for the oil and gas industry. Those four agenda items are part of House Speaker-elect Pelosi’s larger agenda for the first 100 legislative hours of the Democratic House majority next January.
